does anyone know where they would sell fiberglass amt and resin realitively cheap in big quantities around ottawa?

Try a marine supply place or a body shop that repairs hiway rigs.  They often get big drums and will sell off smaller amounts.  Or they will know of a good supplier. We got some years ago when building a cedar strip canoe.  Second choice is to try to get a shop to order you some at their business prices.

If going to a commercial place with smaller containers, try Mike at NoLimits Auto Parts on Cyrville Rd.  Nice guy.
