Hi Everyone
Loads happening since I last posted in February!
I have finally finished my brakes, including new rotors, and am a lot more confident about stopping now.
I picked up a 2nd hand automatic transaxle a while back, and finally had it swapped in for my old one, which has been missing 2nd gear for about 18 months!
While that was getting done, I had poly cradles bushes (and new cradles bolts) installed. BTW - the cradle was fine, nothing but a little bit of surface rust.
The car has been really happy on 205/60-14 tyres, but they are really scarce here in the UK - the only source is Cooper, so I've been looking for alternatives, and managed to pick up 5 15" Lace alloys with 2 good Falken tyres, so got them, and a couple of new Falkens on about a month ago, as well.
I put new KYBs on the front and I've started building a pair of adjustable coilovers for the back - I've got as far as griding off the old spring purches and putting the new threaded sleeves on - the project is on hold, as I've decided to buy in some proper top hats, from either West Coast Fiero or Fiero Addiction (don't know if anyone else makes 'em) rather than mod the existing one - just an issue about looks, really. Will then need to think about lowering the front end, so will be interested to see how you get on with yours, Tibs.
I've also replaced the front speakers with separate componant speakers, and have picked up a CD stereo and amp to play around with.
Outstanding jobs are:
Poly bushings, power windows and locks, and paint.
All of which might suffer, as I've just bought an '84 2M4 for the girfriend. She likes my 2M6 but won't drive because she's only ever driven an automatic once, and didn't like it, and being a left-hand drive on some of our narrow roads bothers her. The 2M4 has been converted to right-hand drive and has a 4-speed manual box.
I'm off to pick it up on Monday and, on the way back, will be taking a look at an Indy that's been sitting in someone's garage for about 10 years. He was going to strip some parts to put on his other Fiero and then part it out, but I think I might be able to work a deal with him on it. It may well be the only Indy in Europe - certainly the only Indy in the UK!
Since sorting out the transmission, and getting the brakes and rubber sorted out, I've been enjoying driving it a lot more - Took the GF down to LeMans for the 24 Hr race without any trouble whatsover, and have had a few early morning blasts with some like-minded folks - see my posts
http://www.petrolheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=567204&i=80 on 31 August for an idea of what it was like, and what Mr GPS says the car will do...
Hope all things Fiero in Ottawa are going well.
