hey lads.. Ok i have installed a wing on my fiero a few summers ago.. and also have a trunk release in the car..
now with the wing on the back the trunk weighs too much to allow the trunk release to pop the trunk.. also to have the trunk lid stay up with out the help of a stick.. does anyone know how to adjust those spring things.. to give more push for the assed weight???
thanks
joe

They're really springy. I tend to cut them out and toss them. You could just add a gas strut to the back decklid to help out. There's tons of them at the upull. $5.99

I'm pretty sure you need to get springs from a car that originally had a wing on it....they are bigger! I have done the opposite and removed my wing and now I can't use the button inside because the deck lid flies open way to fast!

Sounds like someone should do a swap....
There are adjustment holes for the torsion springs. I'm not sure but I would be surprised if GM used different size springs. They probably just used the different holes available. I'm sure you could search the answer for your correct spring adjustment from Pennock's. Just be careful when adjusting those things as they have a lot of preload tension.
At any rate, if it comes to it, I do have a set that came off my 88 GT somewhere.

You're probably right Aaron, but nevertheless, I'll compare my wing and non-wing cars out in the garage and let you know my findings tomorrow evening....

There are actually 3 sets of differrent stiffness used. You recognize them by the color painted at the end of the tortion bar.
The red (softest strenght) was for a trunk with no wings & no luggage rack.
The blue (medium strenght) was for the luggage rack trunk
The white (stiffest strenght) was for the trunk with the wing
There where no differences in stiffness between a notchie and a fastback, it was dictated by the accessories factory installed on the trunk only
As Aaron mentionned, there is also an adjustment to soften or stiffen the pressure of the torsion bars when installed on a Fiero. They are adjusted by selecting a different hole for the torsion bar's retainer pin. Although this adjustment will help, the difference it will make is not as drastic as changing the torsion bar for the proper ones.
BE CAREFULL WHEN MOVING THE PIN(S)... THE TORSION BAR IS UNDER HIGH TENSION!
