Well did some more snooping, that van WAS a photo radar! BUT! it was no issuing any "fines" it was there for "statistical" reasons. Ie: Test the effectiveness of the unti and potential revenue.

So we all believe that the Daltonesque Mafia is looking at the return of roadside paparazzi as a cash cow, right? Stop and think for a moment, what the net outcome of this precious coffer feeder would be, were every driver in Ontario stick to the posted speed limits for a couple of months. Suddenly we have a government who is forking out extra to operate & maintain the photo radar units, but isn't receiving a single cent for their efforts. So now, a few months later, they're potentially in a worse position than when they started.

don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for ways to speed, it most cases I never pass 110 on the 417.. but.. I look at it as hunter and hunted, you can't have all the cards in your favor.
:snort: The OPP wants everything in their favor, in the name of public safety. According to an MTO rep I spoke with about a year ago, it's at the OPP's vehement insistence, again claiming safety issues, that the multiple requests which the MTO receives each year for exemption from front-mounted licence plates, and/or the removal of a front plate requirement from the Highway Traffic Act are turned down. Say nothing for the fact that the remainder of the Canadian provinces & territories which have no front licence plate requirement, seem to manage just fine.
Anyhow, my big concern is a like the friggen plate cover, I payed $20 bucks for the %$#@ thing.. Besides, the licence office charges you for your plate.. When it rusts and gets worn, they CHARGE you for a new one. I'm protecting my investment.
Isn't it also ironic that many licence offices have ads posted which promote the sale of licence plate covers?
