I'm looking at doing an engine swap in my 355 replica, but can't seem to make up my mind. I like the idea of a high reving euro-sounding sports car the 3.4 will give me, but the low maintenance brute work horse 3800 is appealing too. To me though, it's not all about horse power. 200 is plenty for my daily driver. I've heard the stories and have discovered, as usual, the more I read the less I know. It may be too late in the season to ask, but if there are any of you out there local to Ottawa that have either of these engines mated to a 5 speed Getrag and wouldn't mind letting me peek and listen, and if the suns out possibly even taking me for a drive around the block, I'd sure appreciate it!! lol
Any advice??  You just can't beat first hand experience........... Brian.

I know that you are looking for a 3.4 and its high reving capability. If you want only sometime power, just put in a NOS kit in the 2.8 at less cost and a lot less time. You will get your 200 hp. There is an old analogy in the gun fighting arena. Its Power, Speed, Accuracy. It is a balance. I have a '88 3800 series 11 mated to an automatic. I will be at the next club meeting (I will have to check at which location) if you want to go for a spin.

I'd love to... thanks for the offer.
You're right about wanting the "sometimes" power. It's more the high rpm and the sound that everybody is talking about that I'm after... though, I haven't yet experienced either. I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the 3.4 or the 3.8. I've just heard from a few about the 3.4 reliability problems as well as the difficult maintenance. Though, admittedly the comments were made by those driving 3.8's........ Brian.

8500 rpm limit in my car comming next summer some time.  Sounds sweet at 6500, will sound even better at 8500.

Your only limitations are set from within, by a lack of vision.  But to have vision alone leaves the process idle.  Ergo, without action your thoughts are worthless.

Aaron, I don't know your car. What all have you done to it? I'd love to see it.

I may or may not be there this Saturday, you may or may not see it then.  But basically I'm only half done what I want to do. My thread is the Thinking Northstar thread.
