We have had a few people ask for a winter get- together. We are talking about dinner at a resturant and chat until whenever. It's just a way of getting over the blues of winter with fellow Fiero people. We were suggested about having dinner at a half way point like around Kitchener . This way we can accomodate pretty much everyone in Southern Ontario. We want to plan for Saturday January 22. If anyone can make it that would be great.

Pete

This is a cut and paste from the GTA and PFF forum,  I wanted to make sure everyone that may be interested got the message.  I realize it would be a huge drive for some of you guys, but atleast I can let you know about the get-together.

I know this comment isn’t for me and this is a little off topic, but on of the problems I have with my motor (N*) is that it produces too much low end torque.  I have to be careful that I don’t spin the tires as it is.  More torque would be more problematic.  What I want is more top end HP not more torque.

why the hell are you ditching the 4.9?.......  Its superior in many ways.

Why are you asking me about this here, there is a build up thread on PFF that you are more than welcome to read and even ask questions there. (if you can post there)  But my quick reply, you can't really say ditching the 4.9 when I have taken the engine as far and as fast as I have.  You ask why not build up the internals, they have not even failed in stock form with 175 000 K.  I also know that More cubes more tq = faster car is a very thoughtless statement.  I am sure in a few years someone will be asking me why I am "ditching" the N* aswell. Its all about change and enjoying my hobby.

Anyways, I hope you can make it out the get-together.  Huh

Pete

You are right.  I could post over there if I want with one of my several names but I dont' really feel like it.  I think it would be quite obvious who it was if I did and I am keeping a low profile for now.

Stock internals?  Dude you ran low boost numbers.  Of course its going to stick togethor.  Turn up the wick and see if its as strong as you think.  Its not.

My guess why you are going with a n star?  Sure ok I will give it a shot.

You are realizing that the 4.9 swap is lame and doesn't have much of a performance aftermarket.  You also see that less people are goign to want to do this swap since many are running high 14's to 15 flats with this swap with the auto tranny.  I mean why would someone pay you $6k to do this swap to run 15's on a crappy ass motor?  You now know this and are getting out of 4.9's cause you see for the long term it won't be prosperous monetarily wise.  I give you some cred for this but after saying its so cool for so long you are now ditching it and are trying to hide the reasons why.

You realize that the n star is going to be a valid swap in a few years for making money if you are able to perfect it now.  Engine prices are coming down, and you are going to use your car to learn how to do the swap so you can charge an ungodly amount of money to do this swap in the future for someone.  So might as well use yours as a testbed right?

good luck with your swap.  Talk about a hack job with the tuning.  Going to try to use a 7730 ecm to control a n star?  Hahaha  good luck with that.  I saw how long it took you with just a 4.9 and a turbo.  A n star is a bit more complicated then a 4.9.  Sorry to tell you that.  I think I read that you are going to try and hook up a distributor to the chain drive somehow to regulate the timing?  If that is true then that is most rediculous thing I have ever heard.  Talk abuot a true hackjob backyard mechanic/Fiero owner.  Damn dude spend the money and do it right.   Stop being a cheapass.  This 7730 ecm swap is crap.

the n star swap is not goign to be a cheap swap no matter how you slice it so why try and cut corners with inferior tuning tools?  Trying to use the DIS computer that is 18 year old tech to run a n star is so ghetto.  You are going to try and do this so when you sell a n star swap to someone you can pawn off this shitty ass tuning tool to them?  An N star swap wont' be cheap so tell your customers to get the Holley and do it right.  You shoudl too by the way.   Now of course if this is not what you are doing then disregard everything said about the 7730 ecm.

There thats what I think.

And no I will not be able to attend the gathering there.  Its a bit too far from me.

KTHXBYE

why the hell are you ditching the 4.9? Its the ultimate engine.
You should have just rebuilt the 4.9 wtih stronger internals.
It makes way more low end tq then a N star does!  The 4.9 would have been much faster.  More cubes more tq = faster car.
You are going to a smaller displacement, heavier motor.  That makes no sense
You should stick with the 4.9.  Its superior in many ways.

why is this ...'stuff'.... on THIS thread at all?

Exactly right, and that, of course, is the bottom line.  Nice way to deal with a heckler.
Very polite/professional of you, Pete.

geeeezzzz Shaun, if you have some 'need' to do such thoughtless thread hijacking I can also see why you figure you need to keep a low profile...... Roll Eyes
Start a thread and ask your questions!! that is how it is SUPPOSED to be done!  It's a simple concept.   Cheesy

Now, back to the "show"......?  THAT would be nice....   Wink

Pete; K-W is a great area; lived there for a few yrs and would love to visit again; but it IS far as you said; 5 hrs roughly to the big smoke then onwards to KW.....    Having said that we are doing a lot of travelling this yr with a serious volleyball commitment so there is a chance we might actually be down that way.  If so I would have to verify almost at the last minute; the schedule changes with standings and rankings and so on so it is a moving target.
I will mark it on the calendar; when you get some specifics; ie exactly what and when and where could you post it please?  If NOTHing else it is nice to hear that clubs are getting together.
