lights ( CLUSTER)

my son just put a 92 sonoma on the road. it has the iron duke in it with a 5 speed he has no lights in the cluster. all other lights work but the cluster does not light up any help would help.could it be a fuse or do you think the bulb or bulbs in the cluster are burnt out.when he went to work they worked . when he left tonight they do not light up  p.s. do not want him to get a speedig ticket and have him say he could not see the speedo. thanks

only thing that comes to mind at the moment is the dimmer switch for the cluster; is there power TO it?  And then, of course, FROM it?
(or is the switch itself somehow screwed up? It isn't turned off by chance.....)

 I had a 92 Safari van which NO DOUBT shared parts with your machine........ and the switches and plugs etc were not great!!

the switch is on but not sure yet if the switch has power or not. thanks will check the switch next. hard to think all the lights in the cluster would be burnt out at the same time. thanks. will let you know how we made out. hope it will warm up outside soon

One of the ongoing probs I had with the safari was that on one or two plugs, the actual copper female spade receptacle (a 'mini' one - part of about 6 that were all incorporated into a single plug) had 'receded' within the black plastic holder so that only the very tip of it contacted the male prong.  The result in my case was that it heated up and caused the entire switch to fail VERY prematurely.  I replaced the switch 2-3X before finding this - it is NOT an obvious thing, visually; everything looks normal.
You MIGHT have something like that happening; just a suggestion; something to look out for.  You have to disconnect the plug look inside it from the connection end to see anything; that is how I saw that one of the connections had been almost entirely pushed out.

thanks fiero 308. the first thing i did was check the dimmer switch and sure as hell it was toast. went to the local wreckers got one out of a astro van got a hand full of fuses payed the guy 10 bucks went home put it in and to your help my son can see how fast he is driving. hope he will look at it. P.S. ALL THE CARS AT THE wreckers were white and it wass real cold. thanks again
