 Wink   introducing........
the "VTXwing"
I wondered what it would look like to add bags from an 84 wing to a nice new VTX LOL
hmmmm
not all that bad after all.  It would prob look better if the chrome side rails were removed from the bags....... and of course it was all nice shiny black........
but not as bad as I thought........hmmmmm Cheesy

I gotta put this up on some purist VTX site!!! that would be so funny!!

 Huh

You need help.   Grin

What's the availability of luggage for the VTX like BTW?

There's not a whole lot around for the Warrior unless one installs an aftermarket exhaust; even then you're pretty much only looking at generic soft bags.

I looked at the warrior but have test driven the VTX18 twice now so I guess I technically have the 'bug'.  I like pretty much everything about them. Size, weight, stability, torque, sound - yeah, just about everything.  I think I have learned my lesson too about 'tinkering' with a bike and would prob leave it alone (something to do with old age and wisdom.....Huh)

In the off season you can pick them up for around $10gs (used of course) but the oldest is 2002 and it wouldn't have 20K km on it......  Brand news (leftover 2003s!) are going for $14xxx range right now.

The luggage for this, as for most cruisers, is soft bags in a zillion different (identical) looks including studs which I really don't like.  I DO like the practicality of the bags on the 'wing but I have driven them and you might as well drive a CAR imo.
It just wasn't 'fun'.....  I like some noise, some vibration and some torquey pull. NONE of which are Honda (etc) trademarks. But I like reliability too.....

so I was wondering what it would look like to put WING bags (they're from an 84 so they're "retro"....  Evil ) on a vtx..... and this is what I got.  Maybe i'll look at the bags from a 79 or something; they will be even MORE retro.....

and it doesn't look as bad as I thought. I am hoping to do a X-canada trip, MAYbe even next summer and carrying baggage is a serious requirement. Esp if my better half flies out to ride the western portion with me..... Roll Eyes

In reality, I don't really care what it looks like; I will be looking ahead when I go and enjoying the scenery coming up.  If it works and doesn't look TOO bad I prob would do it for that trip (ie not permanent).  dunno if any of this will come about but it is worth a thought.

Good thing I can type; think about how messed up my fingers would be right now if I couldn't.......

I did a trip to Saskatchewan in a "81 Wing about 3 years ago. You have'ta plan your luggage carefully and I did use all of my 3 hard bags, backpack and even the "glovebox" to best advantage.

oh yeah you bet! and that is why I am thinking about it.
I have done lots of riding and camped and so on but never a 3 wk trip with 2 up for about 7-10 days so that would be a real first.

hmmmmm
looking at the picture again............ sorta makes me think of a bulldog and a Mexican hairless......
with the bulldog in front LOL
 Cheesy

so try to imagine the seat back GONE, the chrome bag rails GONE; keeping the stock (or similar) seat (LOSE the 'wing seat!) and it all painted gloss black......
whaddya think?

must be a market out there somewhere LOL
I don't have photoshop or anything like that, so doing that many mods to the pic is beyond my abilities/patience.

Much better, assuming that my imagination is taking me in the same direction as yours.  Smiley

Opinions vary, but I find that tall luggage or sissy bars on an otherwise long, low, and sleek machine just don't fit visually.  Function vs. form...  gotta love it.  Cheesy

well it is true; you have a bike with very dedicated lines and then you throw a "90" at them.......
but but
when I was putting a bit of mileage on my last bike (also 'chopper' style) I got a 'backrest' extension so that I could hang a backpack on it and THAT was functional.
I also had a pile of stuff right behind me (as a backrest) if I was camping and that was functional too....... you really can lean against that (esp when the wind pushes you into it....)

so
I would want to (have to, really) be able to carry a lot of gear. Just did a mapquest and it is about 3000 MILES from ottawa to Vancouver bc so that is a bit of riding. You want to be comfortable in every respect on a trip like that (each way....)

so in late Oct or early Nov I will be watching for a nice used piece to pick up I hope.  That will be for next summer rides.  We'll see.

just to extend this thoroughly mindless gibberish.... Afro

I was looking for hard bags ie BESIDES givi
and found this stuff.
first: looks like it was designed by the US army corps of engineers;

second makes me think that someone is tapping the bike for sap.  errr..... oil?

yucccchs all 'round.

Obviously lots of business opportunity still in the hard bag business......
