It wasnt getting rid of Grade 13 that made school harder. It was the new ciriculum that was instated. This goes from primary school all the way through the end of Highschool. What They are trying to do is create an educated younger class which will grow up and be able to contribute to Canada on a world class level.
About the Liscense thing, I see no problem with having to be 18 to get your liscense.. of course once you get it at 16 or 17 while in school, you could just drop out after you have already got it. Plus alot of the poeople who would drop out also will probley drive whether they have their liscense or not..
removing the 13th grade made me feel like the black sheep, i made plans on staying and everyone else were going on cus there was no more 13th. almost like the option was removed. unless you ask for it specificly you wont have it as an option anymore. but then your just redoing your 12th grade, making you feel not dumber and having classes with the people one grade lower then you : / ... they might've changed the curriculum, i'm not aware of it although we have seen alot of changes latly in our courses. I find the goal of creating a educated younger class is good. Pushing kids to grow smarter, defenetly.
the kids that find the early classes easy in elementary school can get chalenged (a good thing) and will be able to learn more and at there own advanced pace. But, it's also pushing more attention to the kids having good grades, what happen to all the other kids that that found it diffecult before, it's now even harder... they have a good goal but i find that they're not doing it right. like in cars, your fiero cruise would only go as fast as the slowest fiero(to not leave anyone behind), and if one leaks coolant or oil, we stop to help them out, see what the problem is and fix it to get it back on the road. we wouldn't just leave them there and go even faster, would we?
In my (limited) experience, kids aren't leaving school because they want to limit their future. They're doing it out of frustration at what has become an unforgiving and compacted cirriculum.
