Had some time to kill waiting for cradle mounts to arrive for Derecks car so I decided to start on the next swap by removing the engine. Its a near perfect condition black 88 GT, this car has no rust at all as far as I can see. removed the inner wheel wells and found just slightly dirty frame rails. This is going to be one nice car to work on. Its a shame there isn't more Fiero's around in this good of condition instead of all the rusted out ones we usually find up here in Canada. Dan

Okay, I'm thinking it's time to start attaching one of these to the frame rail or firewall.   Afro

That's the beauty of the Blue Thingy:  It gives you a better appreciation of what the Canadian climate does to a car.   Shocked

Dereck I have seen Fieros in much worse shape then yours and still be driving on the road. Your's has the common problems from age and nasty salt exposure, I was just suprised that a mechanic passed a safety on it without fixing it or at least noticing it. I have a mechanic that thoroughly trusts me and will pass what ever I take to him but he still looks the car over properly and gives me a list of what needs to be done. He does this because he knows I will fix every thing on the list myself before putting the car on the road. Dan

Hi Dan.  It's amazing who passes as a "mechanic".  I've been fortunate in the past in that I've taken my vehicles to places that I either had a track record with or with whom I've been referred to.   I'm just thankful my car is now in your hands.

Is it yours?  Did it come with the doors attached or was one of them strapped to the hood?   Tongue

The black one is a nice guy's from Whitby its his wife's summer toy. The old engine with a mere 105,000km on it has a blown head gasket oil and prestone have started to mix. So you see some times the engines blow on their own with no help what so ever from its owner. Dan

I think I'll save that last line and send it to my wife the next time she says I blew the engine on purpose!   Afro
