LF: 86-88 Fastback

Since the deal with Rob's car fell through, I'm on the hunt again for a 86-88 Fastback. Must be solid, I'd like to do a 3800 swap.  Let me know If anybody has any leads. The one at Midas in Kingston is perty rotten. Thanks

If its just rotten in the trunk and rear wheel wells that can be fixed by removing the rusted metal and welding in new stuff. I have some patterns I have made up for the trunk that seem to work ok and if your doing a 3800SC swap would be a good idea to go all over the car and fix any rust any way while the car is apart for the swap. Price range?  I met a older guy a while ago with an 86 he was thinking of selling.

The one in Kingston has patches in the floor and the cradle is perty rusty. The interior is a mess and the engine smokes.

Price all depends on the condition, but I'd like to keep it around $5000. I've got a few that I'm looking at but they are a fair distance away.

Are the 1988's that much better than the 1986-87's?

I myself figure that although the 88 design is mors advanced, the darn things are near 20 years old.  If you are swapping and rebuilding brakes and doing poly/ and or aluminum cradle mounts, rear sway bar, lowering,  the car will be fine for Canadian driving.

Biggest thing with the 88's is the better handling and brakes. Brakes on 84-87's can be upgraded with Beretta brakes. Thus leaving only the suspension differences which are an improvement but not that much to warrant the cost some want for 88's. The one thing I do not like about the 88's is the engine cradle it is one of those strength by design improvements which if you live in California is ok but when rust becomes a factor the thinner metal in the 88 cradles becomes a major problem. Since you're looking for a swap-chassis, does a smoking (stock) engine really matter?

Not necessarily, but it would certainly might lead some peple to look at the rest of the car a little more closely.

...but that wasn't my point.    I was simply trying to say that if you're looking for a good swap chassis, the condition of the engine really doesn't matter given that it isn't going to be used in the first place.

No condition of the motor is not a big deal to me, It was just one of the many problems with that car. I have seen some others for around the same money in much better shape.
