the 2m4.9 is what i'm gonna call my fiero after i finish an engine swamp that my teacher told me about, you take an 4.9l v8 out of a 80's cadillacyou then get a distributer from a 70's olds and you take the guts and put it in to a distributer from 4.1l cadillacso u still have electronic ignitionwithout changing the ecm. then you get a flywheel from a 2.8l and have machine to fit the 4.9l, you then bolt the engine to your stock transmission. The only bit of welding you have to do is to make up the motor mounts. So if any one know where to get an 80's cadlliac scraped around NL it greatly appreciated

There is a lot of them around the 4.9 was one of the most used engines for swaps before the 3800SC and Norrthstar came along. It is a very easy swap as the Fiero V6 mounts I believe can be used with slight mods. Lots of torq and decent power but the 4.9 is not the most reliable engine so try and get a good one as low of mileage as possible. There should be lots of info on it I think they are called Carderos or some thing like that. Dan

No offence but the 4.9 does not provide a whole lot of power.  You might want to look into the 3.8SC and the Northstar.

Even a turbo Ecotec would provide you a lot more power.

the 4.9 might not be the best but it is the easiest to do. and with limited funds and knowledge i ain't got much choice and besides i live in NL theres not many 3800 sc lying around. Belive me it wasn't my first choice but with the 4.9 i ain't got to mess around with the wiring harness just a bit of welding

I am by no means a Caddy engine fan but drove in a 4.9 Fiero once, not too bad lots of torque and it does have that V8 awe effect on most when they see it. I even thought of doing one a few years ago when I found a 4.9 with low miles for a very cheap price, just never found the time to do it. Dan

Sounds like you have made up your mind?  Good luck with it.

You will find lots of helpfull people here.  Plus there is a huge amount of info online, just be carfull that you don't follow the wrong advice.  There is a big differance between a second opinion and the right opinion.  In the end, only you can decide what advice to follow.  Be sure, have no regrets, and good luck again.  The process is fun.
