Two questions one do they bolt up to our bellhousing ok
As far as I know the G6 tranny's bolt pattern is identical.
One would need a custom clutch solution however, as the input shaft diameter/spline count doesn't match that of a Fiero clutch. Not to mention that the F40 is normally matched to a thicker-than-what-we're-used-to dual-mass flywheel; the position and end-to-end travel of the release bearing may require a spacer behind the flywheel or a flywheel with a raised hat on the back of it to push the pressure plate further "in" to the bellhousing.
and two is the final drive going to give an over all lower rpm in top gear than the Getrag 5 speed or is it just one more shift on the way there.
The bookmark I originally had has gone bad
, but look for Aaron's second post
here.
First gear would probably be spin city if coupled to something with a respectable amount of low-rpm torque, however 2 through 6 are nicely useable. Not to mention that its claim to hold close to 300 ft-lbs is just a touch friendlier than 20 year old trannys which were intended for use with significantly weaker engines.
