Lousy freakin weather

Had to dig through a three foot high drift just to get into my garage today, not even going to try and get my van out of the drive way till this lousy storm ends. Dan

I hear there was a fatal accident on the 401 west bound between Deseronto Road and Napanee.  Also reports of numerous cars in the ditch.  I'm just thankful we aren't getting hit as bad as upper NY State!

I just had to go out and sweep the snow off my deck.  Geez, I over ran the commercial break and missed part of my program on the telly.

I'm just going to back the Element up and down the driveway to make a path.  Why shovel if it's simply going to melt (in a few weeks)? 

As you can imagine, our house is the only one on the street that still has snow in the driveway come May.

Easy solution: if your place has a sloped driveway, buy a motorcycle which uses street or sport tires (knobby dirt bike tires don't count).  When spring comes around and you're wistfully looking at that hard packed snow which is stubborn to melt and doesn't offer any traction, you'll wish that you had been a lot more intimate with your shovel.  Trust me.

Well, there I was in bed (yes, at 9:30 AM) comfy with the dogs beside me and snoring away. 

Until...

Until I hear a shout from the bottom of the stairs:  "Get up!  My mom has got her car stuck at the end of the driveway!"

 

Now, even I know that if the snow in the driveway is higher than the bottom of my car, I'm not very likely to make it.  I also know that driving a Taurus like an 80 year old in deep snow - and after the plow has gone by - ain't gonna cut it either.  But now.   She backs the car and parks it nicely in the snowbank at the end of the driveway. 

No amount of pushing is going to do the trick as the car is sitting on top of the snow.  Fortunately, I was able to clear out a path and the Element made it out of the driveway so that both she and my wife could get to work/appointments. 

I'm going back to bed now and watching some Jerry Springer.

Reminds me of something I did when much younger...

Night shift at a convenience store, get back to my apartment to find that Mr. Plow had done his thing, and I didn't own a shovel.

There was however, a nicely plowed parking lot on the opposite side of the road and as it was about 12am in a small town, I decided to risk nailing someone on the street with an attempt at using the empty lot to build up speed and punch through the snow bank.

...half an hour or so later, the tow truck driver was refusing to take my money.  Apparently seeing my car hung up on a 2-3' high snow bank was the best laugh he'd had all night.

Today after spending way too much time shoveling the over 3' high drifts in my driveway I gave up and powered my van through the rest of the way to the street. My driveway now looks like crap but I don't care as the van has made a path I can use to get in and out. Now its time for this crap to end, warm up and melt all this white crap away. Dan

Lesley's mom has thrown salt under her car to try and melt the snow.  I have a feeling I'll be driving her to work this afternoon.   

I freakin' hate winter.  Retirement someplace that doesn't get a lot of snow - if any - is going to be a priority.
