Hi All

I'm going to be in Ottawa in a couple of weeks and wondered if there's anywhere I would be able to get front brake calipers for my '85 SE 2M6 (I'm thinking that I might want to bring my spare set of old ones as cores...)?

We have a few burried in our parts shed, however they have all been out of service for quite some time & are therefore "condition unknown" as far as I'm concerned.  I imagine that most are only useful as cores at this point.

As far as retailers go, few stores these days will stock any Fiero parts other than common tune-up components.  Your best bet would be to select a retailer, and order ahead of your arrival in town.  Murphy's Law says that if you wait until you get here, the ETA on the order will be longer than the duration of your stay.

Hi

Thanks - makes sense.

Next question,  then, is - What retailers are worth trying, since I'm not that familiar with the town these days...  Sad

Hi

I'll be splitting my time between downtown (near the Police station) and Buckingham (I'm in town to do the Canadian Ski Marathon...).

NAPA Auto Stores in Ottawa: Link

Benson Autoparts
863 Campbell Avenue  (near Carling & Clyde, which is a bit west of downtown)
Ottawa, Ontario
K2A 2C6
T 613-722-4235
F 613-728-7362

These are all outside of the downtown area, but the Bank St. location is probably less outside of things:

PartSource
1508 Merivale Road
Ottawa, ON K2G 3J6

1515 Bank Street

(613) 260-7222

1091 St. Laurent Boulevard
Ottawa, ON K1K 3B1

Hope this helps!

Hmmm

NAPA quote - $43.42 + $25.00 core charge, per side
PartSource -  $44.82 + $15.00 core charge, per side

Hard choice...

All sorted out now - PartSource on St Laurent were very helpful and friendly.

Brought my cores with me, so the calipers were relatively cheap. I've already got new pads and discs, so will be able to get cracking on the work as soon as I get back, although I will have to coordinate that with replacing the bushings (have had some poly bushings sitting around for about a year, waiting for the right opportunity).

As the new calipers came with new pistons, I now have a set of unused phenolic pistons to sell...

Also brought back some replacement headlight retaining rings and adjusters to go along with some uprated bulbs.

Have been waiting a while to do this, as both of my headlight rings had broken tabs, so it wasn't really worth upgrading the bulbs if the light units were a bit wobbly...

Took about an hour to get everything done - quite a difference, but now need sort the aim out a bit better.

Ciao!

Hi All

It's been a while, so I thought I'd bring you up to date - Funny how life has a habit of getting in the way...

Finally got my new front calipers painted and installed about a month ago - at the same time, I had to do some work freeing off one of the rear calipers I re-built over 2 years ago...

Makes a bit difference, having good brakes all around  Grin

More posted on my main update thread.

Ciao!
