Lousy MTO, talking with a neighbolur the other day while working on my car and he mentioned that his brother works for the MTO and that he told him they will be cracking down even more next summer on offenders.
I mentioned how my car passed the e-test without the cat and how it is not necessary on hot rod classed cars and that I got this info from the enviroment ministery a few years ago.
Long story short he checked with his brother for me and then his brother dropped by and showed me the books on this kind of case.
In the opinion of the MTO any missing emissions requires a fine and it is up to the reciever of the fine to fight it out in court and that they plan on doing constant inspections next summer especially at any kind of car related events ranging from stock car racer or track races like Shannonville down to simple car cruise nights. He also mentioned for the offenders that just pay the fine and get caught a second time vehicle impoundments will be done no matter how large the offense whether it is some thing as simple as a vacumn lime missing or as much as the cats missing and they have the info on what emissions came in which car so getting away with removing things like air pumps will no longer be so easy.
Only thing he did agree upon is that the EVAP system is car related and not engine so running the Fiero EVAP system on my 2001 3800SC is acceptable.
With this in mind I have now removed the lower portion of my trunk to add in a cat to save any possible fines, mind you it is a hollow cat as I know my car will pass that way and I do not want the restrictions of a functioning cat on my car. Dan

I always thought that you ha to keep any emission control devices that were factory installed.  For example an EGR or cat, no matter if you have swapped the engine.

Nice to see they are so vigilant.  I suspect if they set up a couple of inspections at the local Wal-Mart stores they'd nab some real polluters.

I wonder what sort of cow they'll have if we ever get a TDI swap done.  Our cars obviously came with an evap. recovery system, but diesels don't need or use them.   Grin
