As some of you know I was toying with the idea of rebuilding my 2.8 and as I get a little more serious about committing to that endeavor I think it would be wise to hear what people think about the 3800 as an alternative solution.

I know there are different models of the 3800 so I would like to hear what people think of any of the model years from the early 90's to present day. Which ones are good, which ones are bad and why, basically.

Also I am curious to hear from the actual people who have done the swaps exactly how much work was involved and what else needed to be modified as a result of upgrading to the 3800. I hear alot of rumors about having to install custom CV axles only to hear more people to claim that is a myth. So I am interested to hear the facts from the people who experienced it.

Who has done the swap? Was your time worth it? What problems did you encounter? Would you recommend it? How does the 3800 compare to the 3400 DOHC?

Lastly, How far ahead will I be if I go with the 3800 instead of the original 2.8? Value wise and reliability wise? I have done tons of research on this already but I just want to hear what actual 3800 Fiero owners have to say about it. One can never have too much perspective.

Go with a nice low mileage series II or III 3800 N/A or SC and you will not regret it, the 3800SC will out perform the 3.4 DOHC in every way so do not waste your time there plus the 3800 is a very nice fit in the Fiero engine bay with lots of room to work on and around it unlike the stock 2.8.
If you really want to do it take the time to make the drive to Peterborough and I will show you exactly what is involved and needed to do this swap on your own. Dan

Thanks That sounds great. I have Family in Peterborough and it just so happens I have been needing to take a drive there to see them. When I do I will PM you and we can work out details.
