just checking to see what seems to be the popular setup for autocrossing; mostly spring rates, but if anyone has actually converted to coil-overs in the front, do you have any specs or stats on them?  Overall length, travel, spring rate, etc?
I have seen front spring rates from (I think) about 250 lbs to over 400, so I am trying to get a 'feel' for how these different setups ride and handle.
I just got my front (right side only...) control arms off and am going to install poly bushings and coil overs; already have them but i KNOW I have to change the springs; they were for a front engine setup.  Taking off control arms is one MORE thing I am not going to do too often.  Yuchhhhh; what a job.  Still have the left side to do mostly now but it will be worth it.
Big brake and maybe an entire spindle swap in the works at the same time.  Hoping to find a good and inexpensive way to change to the standard chev 4 3/4 bolt pattern; THAT would be a bonus.  Will keep everyone posted if I figure something out there.

I have no idea.  Grin

Tyler is the only one of us who races enough to actually make changes based on the effect on his times.  I believe you'll end with a compromise that won't hurt street behaviour or wear too much.

If you go to Yahoo groups, there is a Fiero racing group which probably has a lot of info in past correspondence.  At least you'll find a few good contacts.

I think the systems offered by Held Motorsports are probably the most advanced generally available.

Try this one as well, mostly poly setups but Gerald races what he builds.

**edit***  Now that I look at it there are some suspension theory pages etc there as well to help out.
What was the question?

thx Gary
I have spent a fair bit of time over the past 5 yrs reading various suspension and frame design books (for a previous project-don't ask!) so am pretty comfortable with a lot of the number crunching; I am interested in the 'seat of the pants' results or 'feel' from ANYone who has stiff springs, just to get a subjective opinion on it.  Maybe I will get two sets; one for driving; one for autocrossing; yeah! that's the ticket!
I WILL check out the links, tho; no such thing as too much info.
OK; problem solved now.
