Wrapped in Horsepower, Driving into Fury......

« on: May 17, 2003, 10:18:53 pm »

Has anyone removed all those slats on the decklid before. I'm thinking I'll take them all off for the paint job, just didn't know how messy they might be once removed. Nothing a little bondo won't fix i suppose

They're a PITA to take off, especially if it's just to paint and re-install.

If you are filling all the holes, it's easier to start with a deck that just had/has a spoiler.  If you fill the holes use the flexible bumper repair stuff.  Regular glass or bondo seems to crack around the holes.

I'd agree that the flexible filler is "the right stuff" for the holes in the rear deck. One of the common problems with filling holes like that is that folks don't  chamfer the edges enough & then the filler only has the vertical walls of the hole to bond onto. If you chamfer the holes generously ON BOTH SIDES, then the filler has more surface area to grab hold of.  Take your time with the final smoothing & the end result should look great.
